The patient is a 30-year-old male. You have assessed the patient and have asked him about the work and recreational environments in which he is likely to wear his new contact lenses. Based on your assessment you have selected an intrapalpebral aspheric RGP diagnostic lens.

Your Objective


You are performing a diagnostic examination of a new contact lens patient. You have selected a rigid gas permeable (RGP) diagnostic lens, placed it on the patient’s eye and allowed it to settle.

Your task is to assess the patient for the presence of astigmatism, and if it is present, identify the type you see. You have instilled fluorescein in the eye.

You are using a diffuse illumination to perform this assessment. Other illuminations have been disabled for purposes of this question.
