SMT Becomes AMC Institute Business Partner

At its February 8, 2007 meeting, the Board of the AMC Institute approved a new Business Partnership with Schroeder Measurement Technologies, Inc. (SMT). With this partnership, SMT offers certification services at significant discounts to Institute members and financial contributions to the Institute itself. In additition, SMT can develop a Master Service Agreement (MSA) with each Institute member Association Management Company (AMC) in order to standardize service offerings and expedite business and legal terms for the AMC's client associations.

SMT, based in Dunedin, FL, offers a full range of certification services to associations including feasbility studies, job analyses, item writing and review, exam development, standard setting (passing score determination), applicant screening, exam administration, certification assuance, candidate handbook development, and recertification tracking. SMT's supports both paper-and-pencil and computer-based test administration through its network of test centers throughout North America.

AMCinstitute (AMCi) was founded in 1964 as the Multiple Association Management Institute (MAMI). In 1976, MAMI's name changed to the Institute of Association Management Companies (IAMC). To incorporate the global perspective, IAMC's name changed to the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC) in 1996. After an extensive strategic planning process in 2006, the name was changed to AMCinstitute to more effectively brand the AMC model. Today association management companies (AMCs) work with over 4,664 associations with annual budgets exceeding $3.47 billion (US). These organizations serve approximately 4.89 million members. AMCs employ over 7,625 association management professionals.

Association management companies partner with fiscally responsible organizations of any budget size (generally not-for-profit organizations). AMCs typically serve as headquarters and staff for these organizations though many forward-thinking associations are turning to AMCs for help in specific need areas such as meeting planning, lobbying, marketing and product development.

AMCinstitute provides a means by which association management companies can coordinate their efforts to advance the status and scope of the association management company industry. Members seek to improve their management techniques, enhance client services, and promote innovation in the industry.
