SMT Sponsors Certification Network Meeting On December 9, SMT sponsored the quarterly meeting of the Washington Certification Network Group, which was hosted by AARP at their offices in downtown Washington, DC. The session, entitled “Lost in Translation,” featured SMT President Dr. Lee Schroeder and Dr. Leon Gross, Director of Psychometrics and Research for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Gross reviewed data related to the results of translated exams and discussed implications for certification sponsors. Dr. Schroeder related a number of experiences surrounding SMT’s growing international business, including candidate services, business practices, exam translation procedures, test development, and validity. The session sparked a great deal of discussion and was hailed by many participants as one of the best sessions ever offered at the the Group’s quarterly meetings. The Washington Certification Network Group was formed as an informal league of organizations, which were considering, developing, administering and supporting professional certification programs for people. Its prime focus is on people, not products or accreditation of programs. Its quarterly meetings are held at various locations around the Washington area.
