The Virginia Pharmacy Technician exam has 60 questions, taken in a
one-hour administration on a computer, in SMT's Iso-Quality
Testing (IQT) network of test centers throughout the United States.
There are thirteen Test Centers in Virginia:
- Washington, DC
area (Falls Church, Herndon, Chantilly, Ashburn)
- Richmond (2)
- Norfolk
- Roanoke
- Abingdon
- Midlothian
- Reston
- Tappahannock
- Virginia Beach
To make a reservation at an IQT Test Center, go to the IQT registration and reservation
page. Select Exam Registration from the menu, then
select VA Board of Pharmacy as the Organization, and VA
Pharmacy Technician from the Exam menu. Click Next and
follow the on-screen instructions to select a test site and time.

To earn registration as a Virginia Pharmacy Technician by taking the
VA Pharmacy Technician exam, a candidate must:
· Successfully complete a VA Board of
Pharmacy approved training
program;
· Register and pay for the exam;
· Take and pass the exam; and,
· Complete an online Virginia Pharmacy Technician
Registration Application.
Alternately, candidates holding current PTCB certification may
forgo training and do not need to take the VA Pharmacy Tech exam.
